Career Design Model
End-to-end career design
A five-stage method for designing your working life. Worked in order, confidentially, at your own pace. Each stage produces evidence that informs the next.
Most career decisions are made reactively. An opportunity appears, and the justification for taking it is built afterwards. The Career Design Model reverses that. You gather insights and information first, set your direction second and apply last.
Awareness
Capture your expertise, experience and successes.
What you do. Upload your CV and add your LinkedIn profile, then answer a short survey. Career Designer drafts your Career Profile from all three. You review it, correct it and add the results your CV leaves out.
What it produces. Your Career Profile: a skills inventory, a career record and your successes. Every stage that follows builds on it.
Aspirations
Identify the work, the future and the milestones you want.
What you do. Identify the conditions in which you do your strongest work, set a direction for what comes next and break it into milestones. The hard part is prioritising what matters most. A direction that includes everything isn’t one.
What it produces. A statement of the work you do best, a clear direction and milestones with a timeline. Alignment tests all three against the market.
Alignment
Test which routes and roles are a good fit for you.
What you do. Map possible routes against your evidence, score real roles against your Career Profile and name the gaps. An idea that fails here fails early, before it costs you a move.
What it produces. Two or three scored routes, a role fit assessment and a development plan for the gaps that matter. Action works from the route you choose.
Action
Build your personal brand, make connections and apply with confidence.
What you do. Position yourself for the route you’ve chosen, build a network plan you’ll keep and prepare applications to the standard of the roles you want. This stage asks for consistency more than inspiration.
What it produces. A CV and professional profile built for your chosen direction, a network plan and live applications. Activation begins when one of them lands.
Activation
Leave well, land well and start strong in your new role.
What you do. Plan an exit that protects your reputation, an entry that sets your standard early and a map of the people who will decide whether the move succeeds.
What it produces. An exit plan, a first 100 days plan and a stakeholder map. A career designed rather than inherited, with a Career Profile that stays current for the next decision.
